Found My Human is a pet adoption app designed to create matches between people and animals, helping find their forever homes while also giving the user the resources they need to properly take care of them. This app focuses not only on finding a pet for you but also on keeping them, reducing the likelihood of returning and abandoning them.
Problem
Most pet adoption platforms prioritize younger animals, overlooking older pets and making them wait significantly longer to find a home. This creates a problem where animals with the highest needs receive less attention. Another problem that surfaces is the lack of accessible resources for owners. Without these resources, they won't be able to understand their pet's needs and won't be aware of the responsibilities that come from taking care of a pet. With the combination of these problems, the likelihood of pets getting returned increases.
Solution
- We designed a pet profile page that gives details of each pet by including a short biography for each pet. This helps users gain a better understanding of the pet's personality, history, and needs, helping them form a connection and making sure that they are informed about the pet's responsibilities.
- We provided a meet me feature so users can schedule a time and day to meet with the pets they are interested in. This helps users gain a better understanding of the pet's behavior and whether they are suited for each other.
- We added an educational resources section that supports both new and experienced pet owners. By including training, health, and long-term care guides, users are better prepared to take care of them.
Lesson Learned
This experience helped me learn how Lean UX works and how fast paced it is. Since it was fast paced, it forced us to focus more on core features. Because of this, the final project looks a bit minimalistic. A feature I wish we could have had the time to include is the check-in feature. This feature would let users share their experience with their new pet. This feature can help and support users who are struggling or can’t take care of themselves. Additionally, this project helped strengthen my communication skills and to work effectively together towards a shared goal.
